Roll a D20 / Contribute

Write for us

We occasionally consider original articles that help players understand D20 rolls, dice probability and tabletop mechanics. Here is what we look for and how to pitch.

Topics we consider

  • How D20 mechanics work in different tabletop games.
  • Dice probability explained clearly, with the working shown.
  • Advantage, disadvantage, modifiers, difficulty classes and critical hits as game mechanics.
  • Rules-accurate guides to dice effects in card games such as Magic: The Gathering.
  • Accessible and inclusive ways to handle dice at the table, in person or online.
  • Running fair remote games with digital dice.

Topics we don’t accept

  • Gambling, betting or casino content.
  • Loaded dice, cheating or ways to manipulate rolls.
  • Articles written mainly to promote a product or place links.

Quality standards

  • Accurate: math can be checked, and rules claims name the official source they rely on.
  • Useful: practical examples a beginner can follow.
  • Clear: plain English for a US audience, with no filler or keyword stuffing.
  • Honest: no invented statistics, credentials, quotes, reviews or results.

Originality and AI use

Submissions must be your own original work and not published anywhere else, including your own blog. Copied, spun or lightly rewritten content is rejected. If you used AI tools, tell us how. We don’t accept unedited AI output. You must have the right to share any images you send.

Editorial review

We read every pitch against these guidelines. If we take one forward, we may ask for changes and we edit for accuracy, clarity, style and length, including the headline. We check facts and rules claims before publishing. Publication is not guaranteed at any stage, even after a draft is accepted, and published articles may later be updated or removed.

We don’t sell links, and no link is promised in return for an article. Links are included only where they help readers, may carry attributes such as nofollow or sponsored, and can be changed or removed at any time.

If you are paid by, work for or represent a company whose product or service you mention, say so in your pitch. Commercial relationships are disclosed to readers, and submissions with undisclosed promotional intent are declined.

What we won’t accept

  • Spam, mass-mailed pitches or repeated follow-ups.
  • Copied, plagiarised or previously published content.
  • Misleading claims, including fake expertise, statistics or endorsements.
  • Requests to insert links into existing articles.

How to submit

Email contact@rollad20.co with the subject line “Write for us: your topic”. Please include:

  • a proposed headline and a three to five sentence summary;
  • a short outline of the main sections;
  • your relevant experience, such as how long you have played or run the game;
  • links to one or two published writing samples;
  • any commercial relationship connected to the topic.

Please send a pitch rather than a finished article. Credit, rights and any payment are agreed in writing before publication. If you don’t hear back, we aren’t able to take your idea forward this time.
